Are you a Maintenance Engineer looking for a role where you can do more than just fix breakdowns?
This is an opportunity to join a growing, family-owned food manufacturing business where engineering is moving towards a genuine World Class Engineering culture. You'll have the opportunity to work on modern manufacturing equipment, improve reliability and play a key role in preventing repeat failures.
About the company
- Growing, family-owned business – A well-established manufacturer that has grown significantly while retaining a strong people-focused culture.
- £100m turnover and 180 employees – Join a successful business with ambitious plans for continued growth and investment.
- Modern manufacturing environment – Work with sophisticated production and packing equipment where engineering reliability is critical.
- World Class Engineering journey – This isn't a role where you're expected to keep putting temporary fixes in place. The focus is on finding the root cause and fixing problems properly.
- Great place to work - Our customer places real emphasis on its people, with ongoing training, employee support and a strong culture of teamwork and development.
About the role
As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, you'll be responsible for keeping manufacturing equipment running safely, efficiently and reliably.
You'll be involved in:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production and packing equipment.
- Responding quickly to breakdowns and production stoppages.
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults.
- Carrying out effective reactive maintenance while looking beyond the immediate fault.
- Investigating recurring breakdowns and identifying the root cause.
- Implementing permanent corrective actions to prevent repeat failures.
- Supporting continuous improvement and reliability projects.
- Identifying opportunities to improve equipment efficiency, reliability and performance.
- Working closely with Production, Technical and Continuous Improvement teams.
- Supporting equipment upgrades, engineering projects and improvements.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records and engineering documentation.
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- Supporting a strong culture of “fix it once, fix it right.”
This is a role where your engineering knowledge will genuinely influence how the site operates.
About you
We're looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer / Multi-Skilled Engineer who enjoys solving problems rather than simply getting machinery running again.
You'll ideally have:
- A recognised Engineering qualification – Electrical, Mechanical, Multi-Skilled Engineering or equivalent.
- Previous maintenance experience within FMCG, food manufacturing or another fast-paced production environment.
- Experience working with manufacturing and production machinery.
- A good understanding of PPM and preventative maintenance.
- The ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving engineering issues.
- A genuine interest in root cause analysis, reliability and continuous improvement.
- The confidence to challenge temporary fixes and look for long-term solutions.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Production and other departments.
Most importantly, you'll be someone who takes pride in their work and wants to understand why something has failed, not just how to get it running again.
Benefits
- £55,963 salary
- Monday-Friday rotating shift pattern
- 28 days holiday, including bank holidays, increasing with length of service
- Extra day off for your birthday
- Company pension scheme – 4% employer contribution / 5% employee
- Medicash health cash plan after 3 months
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave
- Company events throughout the year
- Ongoing training and development through the onsite Training Academy
- Long-service awards including additional holidays and bonuses
If you're a Maintenance Engineer who wants to move beyond reactive maintenance and become part of a business focused on reliability, engineering improvement and doing things properly, we'd love to hear from you.
