Maintenance Engineer – Nights (Automated Logistics / Depot)

Salary: £50,000 + Overtime + Comprehensive Benefits Package
Shift: Monday to Friday | 22:00 – 06:00 (Fixed Night Shift)

The Opportunity
Looking to secure a stable, high-paying night shift role with na industry-leading company in the West Midlands?
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a supportive, collaborative engineering team at a state-of-the-art automated depot in Birmingham. Working a clean Monday to Friday night schedule, you will play a crucial role in maintaining continuous operations, minimizing downtime, and driving technical improvements across advanced automated handling systems.
Key Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine scheduled PPMs on high-volume automated picking machinery, conveyors, and depot infrastructure.
Rapid Breakdown Response: Fault-find and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic failures swiftly during live production hours to minimize downtime.
Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring technical defects and implement proactive solutions to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
Contractor & Project Management: Coordinate and manage external specialist contractors and support supply chain technical improvement projects.
Safety & Compliance: Maintain high health and safety standards across all engineering operations within the facility.
What We Are Looking For
Qualifications: Minimum Level 3 Engineering Qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC, or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering).
Technical Expertise: Strong multi-skilled background (electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic fault-finding).
Automation Experience: Hands-on experience working with automated conveyor systems and high-volume materials handling equipment.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently on night shifts as well as part of a team.
Physical Requirements: Capable of fulfilling typical site engineering demands (walking/standing during shift, lifting up to 15kg, bending, crouching).
Desirable Experience
Direct exposure to major automation OEMs (e.g., Dematic, TGW, Knapp, Vanderlande).
IOSH or NEBOSH safety certifications.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing / TPM principles.
Prior experience supervising or managing technical contractor teams.
Package & Benefits
Base Salary: £50,000 per annum
