Feeling like you’ve stopped learning in your current maintenance role? Looking for a new challenge with an employer that will genuinely invest in developing your skills?

Our client is a well-established global manufacturer with a strong reputation for investing in its people, equipment and facilities. They are now looking for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join their Stockport manufacturing operation, supporting the reliability, performance and safety of a varied range of production machinery.

You’ll need to be particularly strong in either mechanical or electrical engineering, ideally with some practical exposure to the other discipline. More importantly, they are looking for someone with the right attitude: hands-on, curious, proactive and keen to learn. There is plenty of scope for training and in-role development, making this an excellent opportunity for an engineer who wants to broaden their technical capability rather than simply move into another role doing more of the same.

The position combines planned preventative maintenance, reactive breakdown work, fault-finding, continuous improvement and engineering projects across equipment including CNC machinery, conveyors, automation systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, pumps, drives, PLCs and robotics.

Job Description
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and respond to reactive breakdowns across production equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults, working quickly to minimise production downtime.
  • Maintain and repair equipment including CNC machines, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, gearboxes, motors and drives.
  • Support automated equipment, PLC-controlled machinery and robotics where required.
  • Contribute to engineering projects and continuous improvement activity designed to improve machine reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure work is completed in line with agreed procedures.
  • Work closely with production colleagues to keep equipment safe, operational and performing effectively.
  • Promote high standards of health and safety throughout all maintenance and engineering activity.
Person Specification
  • Previous experience within a maintenance engineering or manufacturing engineering environment.
  • Strong practical skills in either mechanical or electrical maintenance, with some exposure to the other discipline ideally.
  • Good fault-finding and diagnostic ability, with a practical and methodical approach to breakdowns.
  • Experience with industrial machinery; exposure to CNC equipment would be particularly useful.
  • Knowledge of areas such as hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, gearboxes or automation systems.
  • Apprentice-trained or suitably qualified in mechanical, electrical or multi-skilled engineering.
  • PLC experience would be advantageous, although further training and development can be provided.
  • Most importantly, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, strong work ethic and genuine interest in developing broader engineering skills.

This is an opportunity to join a stable, supportive manufacturing business where long-term employee retention is strong and investment in people is taken seriously. Alongside a basic salary of up to £48,000, the rotating day shift attracts a 15% shift allowance – taking potential earnings to £55,200 – while permanent nights attract a 30% allowance, taking potential earnings to £62,400. With excellent training, exposure to a broad range of machinery and plenty of opportunity to develop technically, it would particularly suit an engineer who feels they have become comfortable or under-challenged in their current position and is ready to learn something new.
