Maintenance Park Keeper

Location: Hackney, London
Pay Rate: £17.28 per hour (PAYE) | £23.29 per hour (Umbrella)
Hours: 36 hours per week, typically 7:00am to 3:00pm, with flexibility around working hours and additional hours available for those seeking extra work
Duration: Ongoing work for the foreseeable future
Reporting To: Parks and Open Spaces Supervisor

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Park Maintenance Keeper to help maintain Hackney's parks, green spaces, and recreational areas. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring parks remain clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors.

The site includes formal walks and lawns, sports facilities, specimen trees, and a nature conservation area, all of which require ongoing maintenance and care to a high standard.

• Carry out routine grounds maintenance across parks and open spaces.
• Cut grass, trim hedges, prune shrubs, weed flower beds, and assist with planting.
• Operate grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, and leaf blowers.
• Collect litter, empty bins, and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
• Inspect parks for hazards, vandalism, or maintenance issues and report concerns promptly.
• Undertake minor repairs to park furniture, fencing, signage, and other park infrastructure.
• Assist with the maintenance of sports facilities, lawns, specimen trees, and conservation areas.
• Assist with seasonal maintenance activities, including leaf clearance and winter preparations.
• Support the setup and clear-down of community events held within parks.
• Follow health and safety procedures and ensure equipment is used safely.
• Engage professionally and courteously with members of the public.

• Previous experience as a Gardener, Park Keeper, Grounds Maintenance Operative, Landscaper, or in a similar outdoor maintenance role.
• Experience using grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
• Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Knowledge of maintaining public spaces, gardens, parks, sports pitches, or recreational grounds.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
• Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual outdoor work.
• Ability to identify maintenance issues and take appropriate action.
• Commitment to maintaining safe, clean, and attractive public spaces.

• Competitive hourly rates of £17.28 PAYE or £23.29 Umbrella.
• 36 hours per week, typically 7:00am to 3:00pm, with flexibility and additional hours available.
• Ongoing work for the foreseeable future.
• For PAYE workers: 36 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays).
