Management Accountant

Axon Moore

Axon Moore are delighted to be working with a business based in North Manchester to appoint a Management Accountant. This person will play a key role in providing accurate, timely and meaningful financial information across the business.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you’ll take ownership of the monthly management accounts and management reporting, while also supporting budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and year-end activities. This is a hands-on role with plenty of opportunity to make an impact by challenging the numbers and improving the way we work.

Salary: £45-52k plus bonus DOE

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare the monthly management accounts, adhering to strict deadlines, including clear commentary on performance and variances against budget and forecast.
  • Process journals, accruals, prepayments and complete the balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support the annual budgeting and rolling re-forecast processes, working closely with and forging relationships with budget holders across the business.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, depreciation schedules and monthly control account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns and assist with other statutory and regulatory returns.
  • Support cash flow reporting and forecasting.
  • Investigate margin and cost variances, identifying underlying issues and highlighting them to the Head of Finance with recommended actions.
  • Assist with the external year-end audit and preparation of statutory accounts, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries.
  • Review and improve month-end processes, financial controls and management reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Finance team, providing support and cover where required.
Person Specification
  • Qualified or part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant, or qualified by experience, with strong technical accounting skills and a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a consistently high standard of accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver reliably to monthly deadlines.
  • Confidence communicating financial information clearly to colleagues who may not have a finance background.
  • An enquiring mind — someone who questions the numbers, investigates variances and looks for the reason behind the result rather than simply accepting it.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a small, busy team.
  • A willingness to share ideas, successes and challenges as part of our open-door culture.
  • Discretion and integrity when dealing with confidential and commercially sensitive information.
