Management Accountant in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Interim Management Accountant | Distribution Group Location: Cheltenham| Rate/Salary: £50-55k FTC Start: ASAP | Working pattern: 4 days on site, 1 day from home
The opportunity
Hays are partnering with a fast-growing national distribution group to recruit an Interim Management Accountant for its busy, fast-moving finance function. They're looking for someone who is switched on and used to stepping into fast-paced environments, who can quickly get to grips with existing processes and spot opportunities to improve them. This includes standardising and simplifying existing workbooks and reporting methods.
The role
You'll be responsible for the accurate, timely delivery of weekly and monthly management reporting, working closely with the Financial Controller and the wider finance team. Key responsibilities include:

• Producing weekly flash P&L reporting and commentary
• Preparing monthly management accounts (P&L and balance sheet), including accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and analysis
• Budget, forecast and prior-year variance analysis, reviewed with operational and functional leads
• Technical accounting for stock, fixed assets and leases (IFRS 16 / FRS 102)
• Balance sheet, payroll and intercompany/inter-depot reconciliations
• Standardising and simplifying existing Excel-based reporting and workbooks, so the numbers are easier to trust and quicker to produce
• Supporting interim audit queries ahead of December year-end, with potential involvement in statutory accounts
• Cash flow forecasting, board pack commentary and ad-hoc projects

About you

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), though strong QBE candidates will be considered
• Proven experience producing full management accounts in a stock-based business, ideally in wholesale, distribution, manufacturing or FMCG
• Advanced Excel skills. You should be quick and confident with complex, linked workbooks and happy to restructure them
• Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI is a plus
• Proactive and quick to learn, with a "see it, fix it" attitude
• Confident communicator who can build relationships with budget holders and stakeholders
• Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment where change is the norm
