This opportunity sits within a well-established business unit operating across London and the South, delivering a wide range of refurbishment, remediation, retrofit, and building safety projects across both the public and private sectors. Their client base includes local authorities and housing associations, with projects spanning residential, student accommodation, and regeneration schemes.

The business is led by a highly experienced senior leadership team with a proven track record of delivering complex, high-quality projects.

The Role

Our client is looking to appoint an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their team. 

The successful candidate will take commercial responsibility across a number of projects, ensuring effective cost management, financial control, and commercial performance from pre-construction through to completion. You will also play an important leadership role within the commercial team, managing and developing a number of direct reports, including a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.

This is a hybrid role with a mixture of being based at the company's Hertfordshire headquarters as well as some remote working, the role will also require regular travel to project sites across London. 

Key Projects

The business is currently delivering a range of significant projects, including:

Internal and external refurbishment of apartment blocks, Recladding and remediation of residential buildings, New build social housing, Major residential refurbishment programmes, Building safety and compliance works

Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the commercial performance of multiple projects
  • Providing leadership and support to Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial team members
  • Managing and developing direct reports, including a Trainee Quantity Surveyor
  • Taking responsibility for project budgets, costs, valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Ensuring projects are delivered in line with agreed commercial objectives and margin expectations
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, negotiations, payments, and commercial performance
  • Reviewing and managing contractual obligations and commercial risk
  • Identifying opportunities to maximise project profitability and minimise financial exposure
  • Producing accurate financial forecasts, cost reports, and commercial updates
  • Working closely with Project Managers and operational teams to ensure strong commercial and project delivery
  • Maintaining effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and other key stakeholders
  • Supporting the senior leadership team with commercial strategy and decision-making
  • Ensuring robust commercial governance and processes are maintained throughout the project lifecycle
  • Driving best practice and continuous improvement across the commercial function
