Role: Manufacturing / Process Engineer

Location: Coventry

Contract: 3 Months – Inside IR35

Day Rate: c£300 per day (Depending on Experience)

Role Purpose

The Manufacturing / Process Engineer is responsible for reviewing, optimising, and standardising manufacturing processes across production operations. The role focuses on ensuring alignment between physical manufacturing activities and documented procedures, improving operational efficiency through Lean methodologies, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and assisting in the implementation of ISO 14001 environmental management standards.

Key Responsibilities

Process Review and Standardisation

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of all existing production lines to ensure alignment between manufacturing processes and supporting documentation.
  • Perform detailed gap analyses to identify discrepancies between documented and actual production practices.
  • Determine and agree the correct process by assessing whether the physical manufacturing process is correct and documentation requires updating; or the documentation is correct and the manufacturing process requires adjustment.
  • Review, verify, and update key manufacturing documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Other associated manufacturing and quality documents
  • Produce reports detailing findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.

Bills of Materials Management

  • Create and maintain accurate Indented Bills of Materials (BOMs) that reflect agreed manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure BOM structures are aligned with operational requirements and support efficient production planning and control.

Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing

  • Identify process improvement opportunities across production areas, including: Process flow optimisation, Factory and workstation layout improvements, Production line balancing
  • Identify and eliminate sources of waste using Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Develop and manage Continuous Improvement (CI) projects to deliver measurable gains in efficiency, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Support the implementation of Lean tools and best practices throughout the manufacturing environment.

Environmental Management Systems

  • Support the implementation and integration of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System requirements across the Wayside and Grovelands facilities.
  • Assist with environmental process reviews, documentation, compliance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives related to ISO 14001 certification and maintenance.
  • Work with operational teams to ensure environmental objectives and standards are effectively embedded within manufacturing processes.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Industrial Engineer, or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, process mapping, and production documentation.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Familiarity with Control Plans, Process Flows, Work Instructions, and quality management systems.
  • Understanding of ISO 14001 environmental management systems is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing/ERP systems.
