Manufacturing Engineer – Mechanical

Location: Southam, Warwickshire

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Hours: 37.5 Hours per week

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (Depending on Experience)

Role Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer – Mechanical to support the introduction of new products and manufacturing processes from design for manufacture (DFM) through to production readiness. The successful candidate will play a key role in prototype development, production line integration, process validation, and continuous improvement activities, ensuring products are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

This position requires strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills, with experience in manufacturing environments involving mechanical systems, automation, CNC machinery, and battery/high-voltage technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage manufacturing projects following the Design for Manufacture (DFM) phase through to production implementation.
  • Plan and oversee prototype builds, ensuring manufacturability, quality, and process requirements are achieved.
  • Lead production line integration activities, including equipment installation, process development, and commissioning.
  • Support production line sign-off activities and ensure readiness for PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) requirements.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flows, risk assessments, and standard operating procedures.
  • Collect, analyse, and report production and productivity data to support performance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with engineering, production, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve manufacturing issues and improve processes.
  • Manage machine setup activities and ensure successful handover of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Provide technical support for CNC machinery, automation systems, and manual assembly operations.
  • Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Support process validation, capability studies, and continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency, quality, and cost performance.
  • Ensure all manufacturing activities are conducted in accordance with health, safety, and quality requirements.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a Manufacturing Engineer, Production Engineer, Process Engineer, or similar engineering role.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement practical solutions.
  • Project management experience, including planning, coordination, and delivery of engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of production line setup, integration, commissioning, and process optimisation.
  • Understanding of CNC machines, automated equipment, and manual manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with battery technologies, high-voltage systems, or related manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
  • Competent in analysing production and productivity data to support decision-making and process improvements.
  • Good understanding of quality systems, process control, and manufacturing best practices.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Level 4 High Voltage (HV) Certification or equivalent practical experience working with battery systems and high-voltage applications.
  • Experience within battery manufacturing, electrification, automotive, EV, energy storage, or advanced engineering sectors.
  • Knowledge and experience of PPAP and production validation processes.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with process FMEA, control plans, and manufacturing risk assessments.
  • Ability to support automation projects and equipment validation activities.
  • CAD software knowledge and ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline OR Relevant engineering certifications or vocational qualifications will be considered where supported by substantial industry experience
