This is a 6 month contract that is fully onsite located in the Portsmouth area

Maritime Engineering Technical Support Officer responsible for:

  • Provide an overview of vessel operational performance and forward look of vessel maintenance planning, escalating issues to senior managers and presenting solutions.
  • Provide technical direction to maintain overall compliance within statuary Class and Flag State rules, rectify defects and identify fleet wide performance issues and continuous improvements across all platforms.
  • Keeping abreast of Regulatory Code changes and evaluate their impact, liaising with operators' superintendents regarding compliance issues as appropriate. To include informing other SEO's of their responsibilities as Commanders of these vessels.
  • Single point of contact for all Vessel Managers (Commanders/Chief Engineers/OiC's) across platforms to monitor vessel usage and machinery servicing requirements both planned and unplanned.
  • Directing and advising Chief Engineers on appropriate action to take when vessels encounter issues, using expert knowledge to identify likely causes and advise on any investigative work.
  • Responsible for maximising vessel availability by managing monitoring and advising on vessel usage.
  • Liaise with and manage relationships with suppliers, including the delivery of work which meets HO Commercial compliancy rules for all planned, unplanned maintenance and defect rectification works across platforms.
  • Oversee drafting of technical requirements and specification for inclusion into contracts of the annual maintenance periods of all platforms
  • Apply technical expertise acquired through experience and training to identify remedies to issues which Chief Engineers on vessels have been unable to solve.
  • Apply commercial knowledge to identify the quickest and most appropriate route to rectify issues when specialist support is required, whilst remaining compliant with commercial process and/or seeking exceptions where needed
  • Apply lessons learned from incidents and issues across the fleet. Ensuring best practices are adopted
  • Reviewing vessel operational and maintenance standards by means of ship rides and port visits. Advise on potential improvements. Identify and evaluate non-conformance and corrections.
  • Direct Maritime HQ Finance Officer on relevant work, including raising Purchase Orders for works undertaken across all platforms.
  • Undertake Material Assurance visits on an opportunity basis in conjunction with the Health and Safety Team to advise and direct operational commanders and crew and to ensure all platforms are maintained and operated in accordance with Command policy and Regulatory code.

Key Experience
MARINE ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
PROJECT MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
STCW certificate of competency STCW III/2 or STCW III/3.
CHIEF ENGINEER OR EQUIVALENT, MARINE ENGINEER
Knowledge of working in an engineering capacity, with or on maritime vessels (ideally different vessels)
Strong experience and working knowledge of Class, Flag, IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, the ISM Code and ISO requirements
