Key Responsibilities

- Maintain accurate maintenance records, defect reports and engineering documentation.
- Support the safe operation and reliability of marine engines, propulsion systems, generators, pumps, cooling systems and auxiliary machinery.
- Undertake maintenance and repairs involving propulsion equipment, including Voith Schneider propulsion systems and bow thrusters, where fitted.
- Work with external contractors and specialist engineers when required.
- Ensure all engineering work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard, in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
- Maintain clean, organised and safe engine rooms, workshops and engineering areas.
- Assist with vessel preparation, repairs and maintenance during MCA surveys, inspections and dry-docking periods.
- Participate in vessel movements, event operations and operational support across a seven-day working week when required.
What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience as a Marine Engineer, Marine Technician, Mechanical Engineer or in a similar engineering role.
- Strong practical mechanical skills and a hands-on approach to maintenance and repairs.
- Experience with marine diesel engines, propulsion systems and associated vessel machinery.
- Good diagnostic, fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work independently, use initiative and respond effectively to breakdowns and defects.
- A strong commitment to safety, reliability and quality workmanship.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with vessel crews, colleagues and contractors.
- A flexible, positive approach to working in a busy passenger vessel environment.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- A recognised Marine Engineering qualification, relevant engineering apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
- An Approved Engine Course (AEC) qualification or other relevant marine engineering certification.
- Experience working on commercial passenger vessels or other commercial marine craft.
- Experience with diesel engines, propulsion systems, electrical systems and hydraulic equipment.
- Knowledge of main engines, generators, pumps, cooling systems and auxiliary machinery.
- Experience with Voith Schneider propulsion systems and bow thrusters.
- Experience working on the River Thames or within an inland waterway or commercial marine environment.
- Relevant MCA-recognised qualifications and applicable STCW training, including personal survival techniques, fire prevention and firefighting, and first aid, where appropriate.
We recognise that practical ability and transferable engineering experience are valuable. Candidates who can demonstrate the right skills, attitude and willingness to develop are encouraged to apply, even if they do not hold every qualification listed.
What We Offer
- A varied, practical role within an established Thames marine company with the opportunity to work across a diverse fleet of commercial passenger vessels.
- Opportunities for ongoing training, development and professional progression.
- A supportive, friendly and hands-on working environment.
- A role where your skills and contribution directly support the safe and reliable operation of our fleet.
No two days are necessarily the same, and this is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team while taking ownership of engineering tasks across a working passenger fleet.
