Mechanical Contracts Manager
David Leslie Ltd
Mechanical Contracts Manager | Building Services | South London | £80,000–£90,000 + Benefits
Multiple Project Ownership | Pre-Construction to Handover | Commercial Fit-Out | Design & Build
A well-established and highly regarded Mechanical Building Services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager to join its successful London operation.
Established for more than 25 years, the privately owned business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality mechanical engineering solutions for leading main contractors, consultants and end-user clients.
Its portfolio is particularly strong across high-spec commercial CAT A and CAT B fit-out and refurbishment, alongside healthcare, retail, specialist environments and technically demanding Design & Build projects. The wider business works across mechanical opportunities ranging from approximately £500,000 through to substantial multi-million-pound schemes.
This is a senior, hands-on position for somebody capable of taking full end-to-end ownership of several mechanical projects simultaneously, from the earliest pre-construction and design stages through procurement and delivery to commissioning and final handover.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative, engineering-led business where experienced people work closely with Directors, technical, commercial and project teams. Individuals are trusted to take genuine responsibility, ideas and practical solutions are valued, and there is real scope to develop as the business continues to grow.
For somebody who enjoys being close to their projects rather than becoming removed from day-to-day delivery, this represents an excellent long-term opportunity within a supportive and experienced team.
The Opportunity
As Mechanical Contracts Manager, you will take overall responsibility for a portfolio of live and upcoming mechanical projects, managing several schemes concurrently while maintaining visibility across programme, design, procurement, commercial performance, client relationships and delivery.
Importantly, your involvement begins before projects reach site. You will understand how each scheme has been tendered and designed, establish the delivery strategy during pre-construction and retain ownership throughout the complete project lifecycle.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking full end-to-end responsibility for several mechanical projects simultaneously
- Leading projects from tender handover and pre-construction through to completion
- Reviewing scope, design information, programmes, procurement strategy and project risk
- Managing design development, technical submissions, RFIs and drawing-release programmes
- Coordinating procurement, subcontractors and key supply-chain partners
- Monitoring programme, budgets, variations, commercial performance and change
- Maintaining strong relationships with main contractors, consultants and end-user clients
- Leading project teams and ensuring technical or commercial issues are identified early
- Driving commissioning, completion and successful project handover across the project portfolio
You will work closely with the company’s in-house technical, CAD, commercial and management teams, creating a joined-up approach from design and pre-construction through to final delivery.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Contracts Manager with a strong Mechanical Building Services contractor background.
A particularly strong Senior Mechanical Project Manager who is already accustomed to managing multiple projects and is ready to step into broader contracts responsibility would also be considered.
You should have:
- Proven experience delivering mechanical building services projects from pre-construction through to handover
- Demonstrable experience managing several projects concurrently rather than one scheme in isolation
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, plumbing and public health systems
- Experience across commercial fit-out, refurbishment and Design & Build projects
- Strong design-management, programming, procurement and subcontractor-management capability
- Good commercial awareness including variations, budgets, change management and project risk
- The confidence to lead client relationships and coordinate project, design and commercial teams
The strongest candidates will combine excellent technical knowledge with a proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to remain in control of multiple projects at different stages of their lifecycle.
What’s on Offer?
- £80,000–£90,000 basic salary
- Travel expenses when attending project sites
- Company pension
- Professional training and continued development
- High-quality commercial and Design & Build project portfolio
- Genuine long-term progression within an established and ambitious contractor
This is an opportunity to join a business where a Contracts Manager can have genuine visibility, autonomy and influence, working closely with senior management while taking real ownership of projects and client relationships.
