Engineer a brighter future.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team at our prestigious London office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in commercial facilities management, planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding and building services.

Working as part of the site engineering team, you will help ensure the building's mechanical systems and services operate safely, reliably and efficiently. You will respond to breakdowns and alarms, complete planned preventative maintenance and support the wider engineering team across a range of building services.

The role is mechanically focused but requires a practical multiskilled approach, with the ability to support electrical, HVAC, controls, plumbing, water and building fabric activities where competent to do so.

Join our team and play a key role in delivering excellence and innovation in Hard FM and Technical Facilities Services.

As a Mechanical Engineer you'll:

  • Carry out planned, preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across the site.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on mechanical building services and associated plant.
  • Inspect plant, equipment and mechanical systems and identify defects, deterioration or potential failures.
  • Maintain and operate a range of HVAC, pumps, motors, valves, heating, ventilation, chilled water and water systems.
  • Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns, leaks, temperature issues, plant failures and other building services incidents.
  • Carry out regular plant room and building inspections, recording readings and identifying abnormal conditions.
  • Complete planned maintenance tasks within agreed timescales and to the required standard.
  • Undertake like-for-like component replacement and authorised minor works within your competence.
  • Support wider building services including electrical systems, BMS/controls, plumbing, water and building fabric where trained and competent.
  • Work safely in accordance with risk assessments, method statements, permits to work, isolations and LOTO procedures.
  • Support emergency response and business continuity arrangements when required.
  • Coordinate and monitor specialist contractors and visiting engineers.
  • Check contractor workmanship, safety, housekeeping and completion of works.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, plant logs and compliance documentation.
  • Provide clear and effective shift handovers, including outstanding works, faults, risks, isolations and contractor activity.
  • Communicate professionally with DLA Piper employees, visitors, facilities colleagues and client representatives.
  • Identify recurring faults and recommend improvements to reliability, efficiency and energy performance.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, PPE and engineering spares appropriately.
  • Escalate any issues that fall outside your competence, authority or technical responsibility.

What we're looking for:

  • Essential
    • Recognised Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
    • Significant experience in mechanical maintenance within a commercial building services or facilities management environment.
    • Strong practical experience in planned and reactive maintenance and mechanical fault finding.
    • Good knowledge of HVAC and building mechanical services.
    • Experience working with equipment such as pumps, motors, AHUs, FCUs, heating and chilled water systems, valves and associated plant.
    • Understanding of building management systems and mechanical controls.
    • Experience working within formal health and safety procedures, including RAMS, permits to work, isolation and LOTO.
    • Ability to diagnose faults methodically and work safely and independently.
    • Practical multiskilled capability and an understanding of electrical systems.
    • Ability to prioritise planned and reactive work according to safety, compliance, customer impact and business requirements.
    • Experience using CMMS and digital records.
    • Good communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability and willingness to work a shift rota, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
  • Desirable
    • City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering
    • F-Gas qualification.
    • C&G 2079 / refrigerant handling or equivalent.

    • Experience with pumps, pressurisation units, calorifiers, boilers, chillers and cooling systems.
    • IPAF, PASMA, confined space or first aid qualifications.
    • IOSH or other relevant health & safety qualification.
    • Experience working within a high-profile corporate, legal, financial or similar client environment.
    • Experience supervising or monitoring specialist mechanical contractors.
    • Previous experience supporting statutory compliance, audits and business continuity arrangements.
