Mechanical Assembly & Fitter
Location: Sittingbourne, Kent

Job Scope

We are looking for a practical and hands-on Mechanical Assembly & Fitter to join a busy engineering operation in Sittingbourne. This role is primarily focused on the mechanical assembly, fitting and preparation of components and equipment, with some additional responsibility for handling materials and supporting the stores function.

You will be working with a range of mechanical components, carrying out assembly and fitting work to drawings, instructions and specifications. The role would suit someone with a mechanical or engineering background who enjoys working with their hands, using tools and building equipment to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out mechanical assembly and fitting of components and equipment
  • Assemble sub-assemblies and finished products in line with drawings and work instructions
  • Use a range of hand and power tools to complete assembly and fitting tasks
  • Read and interpret basic engineering drawings and assembly instructions
  • Measure and check components to ensure correct fit and finish
  • Identify and report any issues with components, materials or completed assemblies
  • Carry out basic adjustments and modifications where required
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop and assembly area
  • Pick and prepare components and materials required for assembly
  • Receive, check and move incoming materials and components
  • Support stock checks and maintain good organisation of parts and materials
  • Assist with general workshop duties and other engineering tasks as required
  • Follow all health & safety and quality procedures at all times

Person Specification

  • Previous experience in mechanical assembly, fitting, engineering or manufacturing is desirable
  • Comfortable using hand tools and power tools
  • Able to read and follow engineering drawings, diagrams and written instructions
  • Good practical and mechanical aptitude with a hands-on approach
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of work produced
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a wider engineering team
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to learn new skills
  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling
  • Basic IT skills
  • Previous stores or materials handling experience would be advantageous
  • Forklift licence would be desirable but is not essential
  • Formal engineering qualifications are advantageous but relevant hands-on experience will also be considered
