The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join an established and highly respected engineering and manufacturing business in the West Midlands.

The company specialises in the manufacture and processing of high-quality stainless steel, duplex, super duplex and nickel alloy products, supplying customers across a range of demanding sectors including energy, offshore, nuclear, marine, automotive and construction.

As Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in keeping production equipment and site machinery operating safely, reliably and efficiently. This is a hands-on position suited to an engineer who enjoys diagnosing problems, carrying out preventative maintenance and helping to continuously improve plant reliability.

The Role

You will be responsible for the mechanical maintenance of a varied range of production and site equipment, working proactively to minimise downtime and maintain high standards of safety and performance.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out planned preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance.
  • Diagnosing mechanical faults and identifying root causes of equipment failures.
  • Repairing, maintaining and improving production machinery and associated equipment.
  • Supporting the installation, commissioning and modification of machinery.
  • Responding quickly and effectively to breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and performance.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Working closely with production and engineering colleagues to resolve maintenance issues.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and maintenance projects across the site.

About You

We are looking for a mechanically skilled and practical engineer with experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.

You will ideally have:

  • A recognised mechanical engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
  • Previous experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience with preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • A good understanding of mechanical systems, machinery and industrial equipment.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe working practices.
  • The ability to work independently while also being an effective team player.

Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors or other heavy industrial machinery would be advantageous.
