Mechanical Project Engineer – Industrial Installation 

Location: Milan area, Italy 

Contract: 18 months – through to commissioning

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join a major industrial installation project in Milan, Italy. 

This is an 18-month contract opportunity, taking the successful candidate through the full project lifecycle to installation, completion, testing and commissioning. 

The role would suit a mechanically qualified engineer with experience working on industrial installation, mechanical construction, plant, manufacturing, process or large-scale engineering projects. 

You will work closely with the Project Manager, engineering teams, contractors and client representatives, providing technical and project engineering support throughout the installation and commissioning phases. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Supporting the delivery of mechanical installation works throughout the project. 

• Reviewing and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications and technical documentation. 

• Coordinating mechanical contractors and installation teams. 

• Monitoring progress, quality and productivity against the project programme. 

• Working closely with the Project Manager and wider engineering team. 

• Assisting with planning, sequencing and coordination of mechanical activities. 

• Identifying and resolving technical issues during installation. 

• Ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and relevant standards. 

• Coordinating inspections, testing and commissioning activities. 

• Monitoring materials, equipment and resources required for installation. 

• Supporting project reporting, progress meetings and technical documentation. 

• Maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety and project delivery. 

Candidate Requirements 

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred. 

• HND/HNC-level candidates will be considered where supported by relevant industrial project experience. 

• Previous experience in industrial installation, mechanical construction, plant installation or similar projects. 

• Strong understanding of mechanical installation methodologies and engineering drawings. 

• Experience coordinating subcontractors and site-based engineering activities. 

• Good technical, organisational and problem-solving skills. 

• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary project team. 

• Previous experience taking projects through to testing and commissioning would be highly advantageous. 

• Experience of major industrial or international projects would be beneficial. 

• English and Italian language skills would be a significant advantage, although strong candidates with one language may also be considered. 

• Must be eligible and able to work in Italy for the duration of the contract.
