Project Engineer (Mechanical Bias) – AMP Project
Location: East London
Rate: £450–£500 per day (CIS/Self-Employed)
Duration: 6–9 Months

We are recruiting for an experienced Project Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to join on the major upgrade works at a major Sewage Treatment Works, one of the UK's largest and most significant water infrastructure projects.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on a flagship AMP7/AMP8 scheme, helping deliver major improvements to treatment capacity, resilience, and MEICA infrastructure at one of Europe's largest sewage treatment facilities.
About the Project
The client is delivering a substantial programme of works at a mojor STW, including:
- New inlet works
- Activated sludge plant upgrades
- Aeration systems
- Settlement tanks
- Sludge treatment improvements
- Major MEICA infrastructure works
This is a technically focused engineering role, ideal for someone who enjoys coordinating engineering solutions and driving design delivery, not a Package Manager or Construction Manager position.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate mechanical engineering design activities across the project.
- Review and close out HAZOP and OPMAN actions.
- Review ALM documentation alongside design and construction teams.
- Drive outstanding engineering and design deliverables through to completion.
- Coordinate subcontractor design packages and ensure programme milestones are achieved.
- Liaise with the client and internal stakeholders to deliver technical solutions.
- Provide engineering support throughout project delivery, ensuring designs are buildable and compliant.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and maintain project progress.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience delivering mechanical engineering projects within the water, wastewater, or utilities sector.
- Strong design coordination and technical assurance experience.
- Experience working with subcontractors and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to solve engineering problems and drive technical delivery.
Desirable Experience
- UK water utility experience.
- Knowledge of AMP projects.
- Experience working on large infrastructure or MEICA projects.
- Familiarity with HAZOP, OPMAN, ALM documentation, and engineering assurance processes.
