The Opportunity
We are currently working with a leading residential developer who are looking to appoint an experienced mechanically biased M&E Manager to join the project team on a major residential development in London.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced M&E professional with a strong mechanical background to take a leading role in the delivery of the building services package, working closely with the construction team, consultants, contractors and client representatives from design development through to completion and handover.
The successful candidate will have particular responsibility for driving the mechanical services package, whilst maintaining oversight of the wider M&E delivery and ensuring all services are properly coordinated, installed, commissioned and handed over to the required standards.
The Role
As a mechanically biased M&E Manager, you will take ownership of the mechanical services package and play a key role in coordinating the wider M&E works across the development.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing M&E contractors from pre-construction and tender stages through to Practical Completion and handover.
- Taking the lead on the mechanical services package, ensuring works are delivered to programme, specification and the required quality standards.
- Managing and monitoring M&E contractors and specialist subcontractors throughout the project.
- Working closely with M&E consultants to ensure design requirements and project standards are fully implemented.
- Leading and attending design, technical and M&E coordination meetings.
- Monitoring mechanical design development and ensuring outstanding technical issues are identified and resolved.
- Managing RFIs and technical queries in conjunction with consultants and the wider project team.
- Reviewing RAMS, ITPs, specifications and commissioning documentation.
- Monitoring the quality of mechanical installations and ensuring works are compliant with the approved design and specification.
- Coordinating M&E activities with the wider construction programme.
- Chairing M&E package and progress meetings and driving actions through to completion.
- Liaising with statutory authorities and other external stakeholders where required.
- Working alongside Cost Managers and Quantity Surveyors to monitor budgets, variations and commercial matters.
- Ensuring mechanical systems are correctly tested, commissioned and signed off.
- Overseeing snagging, defects identification and close-out through to Practical Completion.
- Supporting the final handover process, including O&M information, commissioning documentation and client training.
- Coordinating with the electrical team and wider project team to ensure all M&E systems are fully integrated.
- Ensuring life safety systems and cause-and-effect requirements are correctly coordinated and tested.
- Providing regular progress updates to the Senior Construction Manager / Project Manager.
- Maintaining a strong focus on health, safety, quality and compliance throughout the project.
About You
We are looking for a mechanically biased M&E Manager with a strong track record of delivering building services packages on major construction projects.
Ideally, you will have:
- Proven experience working as an M&E Manager with a strong mechanical bias.
- Significant experience delivering mechanical services on large-scale residential, commercial or mixed-use developments.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services and associated electrical systems.
- A good understanding of design development, coordination, installation, testing, commissioning and handover.
- The ability to confidently interpret drawings, specifications, programmes, RAMS and ITPs.
- Experience managing M&E contractors and specialist subcontractors.
- Strong technical coordination and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing RFIs, technical queries, snagging and close-out.
- A relevant City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent qualification in Building Services / Mechanical Engineering would be advantageous.
- Valid SMSTS.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive, driven and solutions-focused approach.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to drive issues through to resolution.
- The confidence to take ownership and work autonomously whilst contributing effectively to a wider project team.
