Unite People are recruiting an experienced Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing & Fire Protection (MEPF) Construction Manager to join a construction consultancy supporting major UK data centre developments.
Working within the client-side delivery team, you will act as the main point of contact for MEPF construction activities, overseeing contractors and coordinating technical interfaces to ensure installations progress safely, to programme and to the required quality standards.
Key responsibilities:
-
Oversee the main contractor and specialist subcontractors across mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection works.
-
Coordinate MEPF installations with civil, structural and architectural packages.
-
Review construction drawings, technical submissions and design changes, identifying potential delivery risks.
-
Monitor procurement, technical approvals and long-lead equipment deliveries against programme requirements.
-
Assess contractor progress, productivity and resources, challenging recovery proposals where required.
-
Carry out site inspections and coordinate the resolution of defects, technical queries and non-conformances.
-
Coordinate equipment vendors and ensure site readiness for delivery, installation and testing.
-
Support Levels 1–3 commissioning activities and readiness for Level 4 and Level 5 testing.
-
Report on progress, quality, procurement and key risks through to system turnover and final handover.
Requirements:
-
Minimum 10 years’ experience in MEP construction, building services engineering, construction management or a related discipline.
-
Significant experience managing multidisciplinary MEPF installations on major projects.
-
Experience delivering data centre or other mission-critical construction projects.
-
Strong technical understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems.
-
Proven ability to coordinate contractors, consultants and specialist equipment vendors.
-
Experience managing technical submissions, procurement interfaces and construction sequencing.
-
Good understanding of commissioning processes, quality assurance and system handover.
-
Relevant degree or equivalent technical qualification.
-
Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge contractor performance constructively.
Previous hyperscale data centre experience and familiarity with chilled water, HVAC, electrical distribution, UPS, generators and controls systems are desirable. Candidates from main contractor, specialist MEP contractor or EPCM backgrounds are encouraged to apply; previous client-side experience is advantageous.
Applicants must be able to work full-time on site, travel where required and hold the appropriate right to work in the UK.
