We are looking for a reliable, skilled, and motivated Multi-Skilled Property Maintenance Operative to maintain our portfolio of children’s homes across Birmingham and the surrounding areas. This is a hands-on role requiring someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship while ensuring our homes remain safe, welcoming, and compliant.
Main Responsibilities
- Carry out a wide range of property maintenance and repairs, including painting and decorating, plaster patching, basic plumbing, carpentry, tiling and flooring repairs.
- Complete general repairs, replace damaged fixtures, fittings and furniture, and carry out silicone sealing in kitchens and bathrooms.
- Undertake minor electrical tasks, such as replacing light fittings, switches, sockets and smoke alarms, where competent and authorised.
- Prepare bedrooms and communal areas for new admissions and complete planned and reactive maintenance across our homes.
- Carry out routine property inspections, identify maintenance issues and ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate professionally with managers and staff, reporting any safeguarding or health and safety concerns.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in property maintenance or a multi-skilled maintenance role, with strong painting, decorating, basic plumbing and plaster repair skills.
- Good all-round DIY, maintenance and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Own a suitable set of tools for day-to-day maintenance tasks.
- Full UK Driving Licence, access to your own vehicle and the right to work in the UK.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge in carpentry, basic electrical work, flooring or tiling.
- Previous experience within children's residential care, healthcare, social housing or a similar environment.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and fire safety requirements.
