Multi-Trade Operative

Main Purpose of the Role

The Multi-Trade Operative is responsible for delivering a range of property maintenance services, including responsive repairs, planned works, void property refurbishments, and property inspections. The role requires expertise in a primary trade, with the flexibility to undertake secondary trade duties as needed. Work must be completed safely, efficiently, and to agreed quality standards and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out repairs, maintenance, inspections, and refurbishment works across residential properties.
  • Maintain van stock levels, accurately record material usage, and order specialist materials when required.
  • Complete all job records, reports, and associated paperwork accurately and in real time using company systems.
  • Identify and report jobs requiring follow-on works, additional resources, or status changes.
  • Ensure company vehicles, tools, and equipment are used safely and maintained appropriately.
  • Work in compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Conduct risk assessments and report hazards, unsafe practices, or incidents.
  • Deliver high-quality workmanship with minimal supervision.
  • Attend appointments as scheduled and provide excellent customer service.
  • Aim to complete repairs on the first visit wherever possible.
  • Take a flexible approach to support operational requirements and changing workloads.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met before leaving site.
  • Support and supervise apprentices or trainees when required.
  • Act professionally and represent the organisation positively at all times.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds qualification, or equivalent experience in a relevant trade.
  • Significant experience within property maintenance, construction, or building services.
  • Proven capability in a primary trade and competence across additional trade disciplines.
  • For electrical specialisms: relevant current electrical qualifications, including testing and inspection certification where applicable.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and workload prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective decision-making, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Current CSCS card or equivalent industry certification.
  • Experience within social housing, facilities management, or property maintenance environments.
  • Previous experience supervising apprentices or junior operatives.
