Location: Chelmsford, Essex
Pay: £165–£171 per night shift, negotiable depending on experience
Hours: 8:00pm – 7:30am

Luma Education Recruitment is working with a reputable education trust to recruit a Night Childcare Officer to support pupils at a specialist residential SEND school in Chelmsford.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Care Worker, Support Worker, Residential Childcare Worker, Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant or SEND professional who is looking for a rewarding night-based role supporting children and young people with additional needs.
You will play an important role in ensuring pupils are safe, settled and supported throughout the night, while helping to create a calm, secure and positive residential environment.
The role includes:
- Providing overnight care, supervision and support to pupils
- Supporting bedtime and morning routines
- Building positive relationships with children and young people
- Supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs
- Responding appropriately to individual needs and emergencies
- Maintaining a safe, calm and supportive residential environment
- Working closely with the wider care and education team
- Supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing and development
- Completing appropriate records and reports
- Following safeguarding, care and health and safety procedures
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals
- A background in health and social care, residential childcare, SEND, education or support work
- A patient, compassionate and resilient approach
- Confidence supporting individuals with complex or challenging needs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- The ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations
- A genuine passion for helping children and young people
- A willingness to complete relevant training, including physical intervention training
Experience as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Care Worker, Support Worker, Residential Support Worker, Childcare Worker, Youth Worker, Healthcare Assistant or Behaviour Support Worker would be highly relevant.
