We're looking for a compassionate and resilient Waking Night Support Worker to join our Young People service located in Islington. No experience or personal care required, just the right values.

£30,784.00 per annum, working 40 hours per week.

The Islington Young People's Assessment Centre is a 24-hour staffed supported housing service that provides accommodation and support for young people leaving care, unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, young people experiencing homelessness, and those at risk of homelessness.

As a Night Support Worker, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive and welcoming environment throughout the night, ensuring young people feel secure, respected and supported. You will help maintain the smooth running of the service, respond to welfare needs, and work collaboratively with the wider team to support young people to achieve positive outcomes and move towards greater independence.

What you'll do:

This is not an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required from time to time and is subject to change in accordance with the needs of Look Ahead.

  • Build positive, professional and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Provide emotional and practical support throughout the night.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people and the service environment.
  • Carry out regular welfare and health and safety checks in accordance with service procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies and safeguarding concerns.

About you:

  • Is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their goals and aspirations.
  • Understands the challenges faced by care leavers, young people experiencing homelessness and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.
  • Is calm, resilient and able to remain professional in challenging situations.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Is organised and confident maintaining accurate records and reports.

What you'll bring:

Essential

  • Experience supporting young people, vulnerable adults or individuals with support needs, either in a professional or voluntary capacity.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work waking night shifts and respond effectively to emergencies.

Desirable

  • Experience working within supported housing, homelessness, mental health, care leaver or young people's services.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, trauma-informed practice and risk management.
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification.
