Are you an experienced and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who thrives on making a genuine difference to the lives of young people with additional needs?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, resilient and compassionate SEND HLTA to join our supportive team at a well-established independent school in Nottingham. You will work with pupils aged 9–17 years, many of whom have complex learning, emotional and behavioural needs.

Our pupils may have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, attachment difficulties and/or a history of trauma. We are looking for someone who understands that behaviour is often a form of communication and who can build trusting relationships while maintaining clear, consistent boundaries.

The Role

As a SEND HLTA, you will play an important role in supporting pupils both academically and therapeutically, helping them to engage with learning, develop independence and achieve their potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting and delivering learning activities for pupils aged 9–17.
• Working with individuals and small groups, adapting learning to meet individual needs.
• Providing targeted support for pupils with autism, ADHD, attachment and trauma-related needs.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and acting as a consistent and supportive adult.
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, social communication and behaviour.
• Implementing individual support plans and contributing to pupil reviews.
• Working closely with teachers, SEND staff, pastoral teams and other professionals.
• Taking responsibility for lessons or learning activities when required.
• Promoting independence, resilience, confidence and positive self-esteem.
• Supporting pupils to develop the skills they need both inside and outside the classroom.
• Maintaining high expectations while providing a calm, predictable and nurturing environment.
• Contributing to a positive school culture where every pupil feels valued and understood.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• An experienced HLTA, Teaching Assistant or experienced SEND practitioner.
• Confident supporting children and young people with additional needs.
• Experienced in working with autism and/or ADHD.
• Knowledgeable about attachment, trauma and emotional regulation.
• Calm, patient and consistent, particularly when supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour.
• Skilled at developing strong professional relationships with young people.
• Able to adapt their communication and teaching approach to meet individual needs.
• Resilient, reflective and able to remain positive in challenging situations.
• A strong team player who communicates effectively with colleagues and families.
• Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and reach their potential.
