Operations Manager Manufacturing

Proactive Global

We are supporting an established manufacturing business in Milton Keynes with the appointment of an experienced Operations Manager.

Following a period of restructuring and continued growth, the business is now ready to bring in a hands-on operational leader to take ownership of the day-to-day factory operation.

This is not a purely strategic, office-based management position. We are looking for someone who enjoys being close to the operation, is visible on the shop floor and is comfortable getting involved when required, while ensuring production, people, stock and customer delivery are all running effectively.

The Role

As Operations Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operational performance of the site, working closely with the Directors and overseeing key functions across the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the day-to-day running of manufacturing operations
  • Managing, supporting and developing operational teams
  • Ensuring production schedules and customer requirements are achieved
  • Maintaining strong stock availability and inventory control
  • Ensuring customer orders are produced and delivered accurately and on time
  • Working closely across production, logistics, warehouse and procurement
  • Identifying and resolving operational issues before they impact customers
  • Monitoring productivity, quality and operational performance
  • Driving practical continuous improvement across the operation
  • Maintaining a positive, accountable and engaged shop-floor culture
  • Using ERP/MRP systems to maintain visibility and control across the business
  • Working closely with the Directors while taking ownership of day-to-day operational delivery

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines strong people leadership with genuine hands-on operational experience.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Strong operational leadership experience within manufacturing, production or another complex fast-paced environment
  • A genuinely hands-on management style and willingness to be visible on the shop floor
  • Strong people-management skills with the ability to engage, coach and hold teams accountable
  • Good understanding of production planning, logistics, stock, procurement and supply chain
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle NetSuite or similar
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills across shop-floor and senior-management environments
  • The confidence to take ownership and make things happen
  • An ambitious, energetic approach and a desire to make a genuine impact

Manufacturing experience would be highly advantageous, although candidates from other complex operational environments with strong transferable leadership experience will also be considered.

Why Consider It?

This is a key appointment within a business that has recently reshaped its operation and is entering its next stage of growth.

It offers the opportunity to take genuine ownership of day-to-day operations, work closely with the Directors and make a visible impact across the factory and wider business.
