Carnell is looking for hardworking and reliable Highways Operatives to join our Technology & Infrastructure team. You'll support highway maintenance and civil engineering projects across the UK, helping to keep road networks safe and operational.
This role involves regular travel, working away from home, and occasional night and weekend working. Accommodation and relevant allowances will be provided where required.
About the Role
As a Highways Operative, you'll play a key role in the construction, maintenance, and repair of highway infrastructure. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll be involved in a variety of civil engineering activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
This is a hands-on position that requires flexibility, including working nights, weekends, and staying away from home when project requirements demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake highway maintenance, excavation, drainage, concreting, and reinstatement works.
- Install kerbs, ducting, cabling, cabinet bases, and associated infrastructure.
- Read and work from construction drawings and specifications.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain quality standards on site.
- Work flexibly across UK projects, including nights and weekends when required.
What We're Looking For:
Essential
- CSCS Operative Card.
- Cat & Genny and First Aid certification.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience within highways, civil engineering, or construction.
- Knowledge of safe excavation practices.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow site procedures.
Desirable
- NPORS/CPCS certification (Excavator, Dumper, Roller).
- Experience working on high-speed roads.
