Panel Assembly/Wireperson

This role covers the full build process – from material preparation and panel layout through to testing, certification and packaging – ensuring compliance with customer requirements and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret GA drawings, wiring diagrams and works instructions to ensure accurate build to specification
- Prepare and collate materials within the work area, ensuring correct project identification
- Mark out, drill, tap and fit trunking, DIN rail, cable glands and mounting plates
- Install relays, circuit breakers, PLCs, contactors, terminals and associated components
- Wire, route, terminate and neatly dress cables, maintaining clear segregation of circuits
- Ensure high standards of workmanship, aesthetics and cable management
- Protect any additional modifications against corrosion where required
- Conduct continuity, insulation resistance and functional testing
- Complete check sheets, issue test certificates and support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) where required
- Label finished panels with serial numbers and manufacturer details
- Package completed assemblies appropriately for collection or delivery
- Support integration of panels into wider assemblies as needed
- Maintain excellent housekeeping and adhere to Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures
Essential:
- Proven hands-on experience assembling and wiring electrical control panels
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and layout drawings
- Competent in cable preparation, crimping, termination and use of hand tools
- Sound understanding of electrical safety and basic testing procedures
- High attention to detail with pride in neat, methodical work
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2/3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation or Engineering
- Experience with PLCs, motor controls or automation systems
- ECS or CSCS card
- Reliable, punctual and self-motivated
- Proactive, “right first time” approach with strong ownership of tasks
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a production team
- Clear communicator when reporting issues or test results
