A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Barking & Dagenham is seeking an experienced and compassionate Pastoral Manager to join its dedicated pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in behaviour management, student welfare and safeguarding who is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young people.
The Role
As a Pastoral Manager, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, attendance and student wellbeing. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Year, SEND department, safeguarding team and external agencies, you will provide tailored support to students facing social, emotional or behavioural challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the pastoral care and wellbeing of students within your allocated year group(s).
- Build positive relationships with students, parents/carers and staff.
- Support students with behavioural, emotional and attendance concerns.
- Work proactively to improve attendance, punctuality and engagement.
- Investigate behavioural incidents and implement appropriate interventions.
- Deliver restorative conversations and behaviour support strategies.
- Monitor student progress, wellbeing and behaviour, maintaining accurate records.
- Liaise with external agencies, social workers and local authority services where appropriate.
- Attend safeguarding and pastoral meetings, ensuring concerns are escalated in line with school procedures.
- Support reintegration meetings, managed moves and return-to-school plans.
- Promote high standards of behaviour and foster a positive school culture.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience working in a pastoral, behaviour, safeguarding or inclusion role within a secondary school.
- Excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to build rapport with young people.
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
- A calm, resilient and empathetic approach.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider pastoral team.
- Experience using school management systems such as SIMS, Arbor or Bromcom is desirable.
- A sound understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection legislation.
