Pastoral Support Worker (SEN / Inclusion Department)
Location: Mainstream Secondary School, Carnforth, Lancashire
Salary:
Contract Type: Temporary with a view of permanent
Hours: Full-time or Part-time options considered
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Pastoral Support Worker to join the busy and inclusive SEN/Inclusion department of our mainstream secondary school.
In a mainstream setting, this role is crucial in helping students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)-particularly those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism (ASD), or ADHD-successfully access mainstream lessons. You will work on the front line of student support, bridging the gap between teachers, external agencies, and families to ensure our SEN learners feel safe, understood, and equipped to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
In-Department & In-Class Support: Work alongside SEN teachers and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to support SEN students during lessons or provide targeted intervention sessions within our dedicated inclusion/nurture base.
Targeted Pastoral Interventions: Deliver evidence-based 1-to-1 or small-group mentoring sessions focusing on emotional regulation, social communication, anger management, and building resilience.
Transition & Integration Support: Facilitate smooth transitions for SEN students-whether moving from primary school to Year 7, transitioning between lessons, or returning to school following a period of absence or exclusion.
Behaviour & Emotional Regulation: Act as a key trusted adult whom students can access when experiencing anxiety, sensory overload, or behavioural crises, utilising de-escalation and restorative approaches.
Liaison with Staff & Parents: Communicate regularly with Form Tutors, Heads of Year, the SENCO, and parents/carers regarding student progress, behavioural updates, and wellbeing strategies.
Tracking & Safeguarding: Maintain accurate records of student support, attendance patterns, and interventions using the school's management systems (e.g., CPOMS, SIMS), strictly adhering to safeguarding policies.
