Payroll Manager in Thetford, Norfolk

NXTGEN Recruitment is working with an established business to recruit a Payroll Manager to lead its UK Payroll Administration team. You’ll oversee the delivery of a high-volume monthly payroll, support the team’s development and help improve the systems and processes behind the service.

As Payroll Manager, you’ll combine day-to-day oversight with more complex payroll work, acting as an escalation point for queries and working closely with HR, Finance and the wider Payroll Management Team. There’s also scope to lead projects covering system upgrades, policy changes and payroll integrations following acquisitions.

Key responsibilities:

• Manage and develop the UK payroll team, providing coaching, feedback and training.
• Oversee end-to-end monthly payroll processing, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
• Investigate and resolve complex payroll queries, supporting the team with escalations.
• Ensure compliance with current UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, RTI, pensions and GDPR.
• Prepare regular payroll reports for senior management and act as the main contact for internal and external audits.
• Review processes and systems, identifying improvements to accuracy, efficiency and service.
• Lead payroll projects and support the integration of payroll during mergers and acquisitions.
• Work closely with HR, Finance and external stakeholders to coordinate employee pay and benefits.

Skills and experience:

To succeed as Payroll Manager, you’ll need experience within a high-volume UK payroll environment, strong Excel skills and current knowledge of payroll legislation. You’ll be comfortable managing deadlines, investigating discrepancies and taking a practical approach to resolving queries.

You’ll also enjoy supporting colleagues, sharing your knowledge and helping a team deliver a consistent, reliable service.
