We are supporting a fast-growing HR technology business in their search for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their Managed Services team on an interim basis.

Due to increased workload and team changes, our client needs an experienced payroll professional who can quickly integrate into the team and manage a portfolio of complex UK payrolls. This is a customer-facing role requiring strong payroll expertise, excellent communication skills, and the confidence to advise clients on complex payroll matters.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, scaling environment and has extensive experience within a payroll bureau or outsourced payroll setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of multiple UK payrolls across a varied customer base.
  • Deliver end-to-end payroll processing, including validation, reconciliation, approvals, submissions and post-payroll activities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers, providing guidance on payroll legislation and best practice.
  • Interpret and apply complex UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
  • Advise on statutory payments including SMP, SPP, SAP, ShPP and SSP.
  • Process complex payroll calculations, including salary sacrifice arrangements, retrospective adjustments and manual calculations.
  • Manage payrolls with multiple pension providers and Auto Enrolment requirements.
  • Process Benefits in Kind, payrolled benefits and P11D reporting.
  • Support payrolls involving share schemes and equity compensation.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations, year-end processing and HMRC balancing activities.
  • Investigate payroll discrepancies and identify appropriate solutions.
  • Respond to customer queries via Zendesk and participate in scheduled customer calls.
  • Work collaboratively with Customer Success, Product and Operations teams to improve service delivery.
  • Share payroll knowledge and support continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

  • Extensive UK payroll experience within a payroll bureau, managed services or outsourced payroll environment.
  • Significant experience managing multiple concurrent payrolls.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, National Insurance, RTI and HMRC compliance.
  • Experience handling complex payrolls for medium to large organisations.
  • Expertise in pensions and Auto Enrolment legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory payments and payroll taxation.
  • Experience managing payroll benefits, P11Ds and Benefits in Kind.
  • Excellent payroll reconciliation and year-end processing experience.
  • Ability to explain technical payroll concepts to customers in a clear and confident manner.
  • Proven experience building strong client relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
