Position: Phonics, Literacy & Numeracy Intervention Assistant - Year 7 Transition Provision
Location: North Manchester

Hours: Full Time, Monday – Friday, Term Time Only
Pay Rate: £95–£110 per day

Cover People are currently recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in North Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to support students within a dedicated Year 7 Transition Block, helping learners successfully adapt to secondary school whilst providing targeted support for their individual learning needs.

The successful candidate will work with a small group of students with Autism (ASD), ADHD and Global Developmental Delay, delivering tailored interventions that focus on cognitive development, communication and independent learning. The role would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting learners with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated classroom support within a Year 7 Transition Provision.
  • Support students with ASD, ADHD and Global Developmental Delay to access learning and develop independence.
  • Deliver targeted interventions focusing on cognitive development, literacy, numeracy and communication.
  • Use visual communication aids and structured strategies to support student understanding and engagement.
  • Provide additional support for students with Dyslexia, adapting resources where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, the SEND department and external professionals to implement individual support plans.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation and successful transition into secondary education.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff and the SENCO.
  • Promote an inclusive, safe and supportive learning environment at all times.
Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people with ASD, ADHD and Global Developmental Delay.
  • Experience using Visual and Communication Aids (PECS, visual timetables or similar strategies) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting learners with Dyslexia.
  • Strong experience delivering Phonics, Literacy and Numeracy interventions, ideally within KS2 or KS3.
  • Patient, nurturing and adaptable approach with excellent communication skills.
  • Previous experience within a school, SEND provision or specialist educational setting is highly desirable.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional learning needs.
