Physical Education Teacher

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, inspirational, and committed Physical Education Teacher to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding teacher who is passionate about PE and believes in the ability of every young person to achieve their potential.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality PE lessons across Key Stages 3, following the National Curriculum, and supporting pupils to develop their physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

You will have high expectations of all pupils and be able to create a positive, inclusive learning environment where young people feel safe, motivated and encouraged to succeed.

Our pupils may have a range of additional needs, including ASC, EBD and other SEND needs, so experience of working within a special school, SEN provision or with vulnerable young people would be highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging PE lessons across KS3 and KS4.

Differentiate effectively to meet the needs of pupils with a wide range of abilities, learning styles and additional needs.

Deliver the PE National Curriculum and support pupils to achieve relevant qualifications and accreditations.

Use effective assessment and AfL strategies to monitor progress, identify barriers to learning and accelerate pupil achievement.

Develop positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, families and other professionals.

Contribute to improving behaviour, engagement and standards through high-quality teaching.

Support the school's wider curriculum and take part in appropriate pastoral responsibilities.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and, where appropriate, the clinical team and other professionals supporting pupils.

Follow school policies relating to teaching and learning, behaviour, safeguarding, equality and health and safety.

Promote positive behaviour and, where required and following appropriate training, support the implementation of agreed positive-handling strategies.

Contribute to curriculum development and subject discussions, with opportunities to take on subject leadership responsibilities.

Support pupils' wider development, wellbeing and preparation for life beyond school.

Maintain a good sense of humour, remain positive and continue to strive for excellence!

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has a teaching degree or equivalent qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or is working towards QTS.

Has GCSE English and Maths at grades 9–4 (A–C), or equivalent*.

Has a minimum of two years' experience teaching PE, ideally including delivery of the National Curriculum.

Has experience teaching PE at KS3 and KS4.

Has experience of working with children and young people with ASC, EBD and/or SEND, either in a mainstream or specialist setting.

Has a strong understanding of the National Curriculum and current developments within PE.

Has knowledge and understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and current SEND requirements.

Understands assessment processes and can use assessment information effectively to inform teaching.

Understands the impact of trauma on children and young people and can adapt their approach accordingly.

Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection and is committed to keeping their training up to date.

Can demonstrate a proven impact on behaviour, standards, progress and learning through high-quality teaching.

Has excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Is willing to undertake pastoral responsibilities and build constructive relationships with families.

Is adaptable, reflective and committed to continuous professional development.

Desirable qualifications and experience may include FE qualifications, Team Teach training, experience of working closely with clinical teams, experience of organising qualifications with awarding bodies, and a proven record of effective subject leadership.
