Are you an experienced Production Planner, Supply Chain Planner or Materials Planner who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment?

Do you have strong planning and analytical skills, experience working with SAP APO or similar planning systems, and the ability to balance customer demand against production capacity and inventory?

We're supporting a global manufacturing organisation in Petersfield who are looking to recruit a Short Range Planner to join their Planning team.

This is a great opportunity to take ownership of short-term production planning, working across Production, Scheduling, Materials Planning and Supply Management to ensure customer demand is met while maintaining efficient manufacturing operations.

What's the role all about?

As the Short Range Planner, you'll be responsible for developing and managing short-term production plans across assigned manufacturing work centres.

You'll take customer demand and turn it into realistic, achievable production plans, considering capacity, inventory, materials and operational constraints.

You'll work closely with multiple teams across the business, identifying potential supply or capacity issues, managing priorities and ensuring everyone has clear visibility of what needs to be produced and when.

This is a busy and analytical role where you'll need to be comfortable working with large volumes of data while also communicating effectively with stakeholders across the manufacturing operation.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain short-term production plans for assigned work centres
  • Ensure production plans are realistic and achievable within operational constraints
  • Communicate production priorities to Scheduling and Production teams
  • Coordinate production requirements to ensure customer demand is met efficiently
  • Monitor and coordinate external production activities
  • Support achievement of customer service level targets
  • Raise and monitor inter-company orders to maintain continuity of supply
  • Monitor inter-plant shipments and Work in Progress (WIP) inventory
  • Participate in daily scheduling meetings, weekly production meetings and supply planning reviews
  • Take ownership of Supply Attainment performance for assigned work centres
  • Identify capacity constraints and work with operational teams to develop solutions
  • Work closely with Work Centre Managers, Materials Planning and Supply Management teams
  • Maintain accurate planning master data including MOQ, EPQ, run rates, effectivity dates and MRP information
  • Manage product phase-in and phase-out activity
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels across intermediate and finished products
  • Monitor and report potential inventory liabilities
  • Create and manage deviations, quality notifications and rework orders
  • Support inventory optimisation and management of excess stock

What you'll need

To succeed in this role, you'll ideally bring:

  • Previous experience within Production Planning, Supply Chain Planning, Materials Planning or Demand Planning
  • Experience working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Experience using SAP APO or a similar production/planning system
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Confidence managing and analysing large volumes of data
  • Good understanding of production and supply chain planning
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships across multiple departments

About you

You're someone who enjoys working at the heart of a busy manufacturing operation and can balance changing priorities without losing sight of the bigger picture.

You'll be:

  • Highly organised and analytical
  • Confident working with data
  • Proactive when identifying potential problems
  • Comfortable challenging and changing priorities
  • An effective communicator
  • Detail-focused and accurate
  • Able to build relationships across different departments
  • Calm and solutions-focused within a fast-moving environment

Most importantly, you'll understand how production, materials, capacity and inventory all connect, and you'll be confident using that information to create achievable short-term production plans.

Why join?

This is an opportunity to join a large global manufacturing organisation where Planning has a direct impact on customer service and operational performance.

You'll work closely with teams across Production, Scheduling, Materials Planning and Supply Management, giving you excellent exposure across the wider supply chain and the opportunity to develop your planning career within a complex manufacturing environment.
