Planning Engineer
Contract Scotland
Are you a Site Engineer starting to question the long-term reality of staying on site?
If you’ve got a few years under your belt and enjoy construction, but not the long hours, constant site pressure, or limited flexibility, this is a genuine opportunity to pivot your career without losing the value of your experience to date.
We’re working with a growing civil engineering, infrastructure and energy business at the forefront of Scotland’s energy transition, offering a structured move into Project Planning—one of the most in-demand and future-proof disciplines in construction.
You’ll be trained and mentored by senior planners who have made the exact same move themselves, transitioning from site-based roles into planning. They understand the learning curve and will support you every step of the way.
Why consider this move?
• Move away from full-time site-based work into a hybrid or remote role
• Keep close to live projects without the day-to-day site pressures
• Build a long-term career in planning, project controls, and programme management
• Work on major infrastructure and energy projects shaping the future of Scotland
• Join a business with strong backing and significant growth plans
The role
You’ll play a key part in how projects are planned, sequenced, and delivered—working alongside experienced planners and project teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Developing and maintaining project programmes using planning software
• Tracking progress and reflecting real-time site activity in programmes
• Identifying risks, delays, and opportunities to improve delivery
• Collaborating with engineers, site teams, and project managers
• Supporting both live project planning and tender/bid submissions
• Producing clear programme updates and reports
What you’ll bring
• Background in civil engineering, infrastructure, or construction
• 3–5 years’ experience in a site-based role (Site Engineer or similar)
• Strong understanding of how projects are actually delivered on site
• Good communication skills and a proactive mindset
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office (planning software training provided)
What’s on offer
• A genuine, supported transition into planning—not just a title change
• Direct mentorship from planners who’ve made the same career move
• Flexible and remote working options, with occasional site or office visits
• Exposure to high-profile energy and infrastructure projects
• Clear progression into senior planning and project controls roles
• Long-term career stability in a growing, future-focused sector
If you enjoy construction but want more balance, more control over your time, and a clear long-term career path, this is a rare opportunity to make that shift.
