Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Measure, mark out, cut, shape, and fit steel plates and other metal sections.
  • Assemble structural steelwork, tanks, vessels, pipe supports, and fabricated components.
  • Prepare materials for welding by grinding, bevelling, and aligning joints.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, burning equipment, and fabrication machinery safely.
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure work meets project specifications and tolerances.
  • Work closely with welders, fitters, supervisors, and other trades.
  • Follow site health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area
  • Skills & Experience

  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings.
  • Experience with steel fabrication and assembly techniques.
  • Knowledge of fabrication tools and equipment.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of site safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Qualifications (Typical)

  • Relevant fabrication/plating apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2/3 in Fabrication & Welding.
  • CSCS card (for construction sites).
  • IPAF, MEWP, or other site-specific qualifications may be advantageous.
  • Confined Space or Safety Passport training may be required depending on the project.
