Join a friendly and growing accountancy practice

We are looking for an experienced Practice Accountant to join our team in Cottingham.

This is primarily a year-end accounts preparation role. You’ll spend most of your time preparing accounts and supporting working papers for review, rather than managing a large portfolio of clients.

We are open to both full-time and part-time applicants. For part-time applicants, we can consider different working patterns, including school hours.

If you are good at preparing accounts, enjoy getting the detail right and want a role where you can focus on doing good-quality accounts work, we’d like to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing draft year-end accounts for limited companies and sole traders.
  • Preparing clear and well-organised supporting working papers.
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts and control accounts.
  • Reviewing bookkeeping records and identifying discrepancies, unusual items or missing information.
  • Preparing or assisting with corporation tax computations and CT600s.
  • Liaising with clients to obtain missing records and resolve routine accounts queries.
  • Assisting with monthly or quarterly management accounts where required.
  • Keeping jobs and internal workflows up to date as work progresses.

The role is focused on accounts production. It is not primarily a bookkeeping, payroll or client-management position.

What we’re looking for

Previous UK accountancy practice experience is essential.

Ideally, you’ll be comfortable taking a job from the underlying bookkeeping records through to a well-organised draft set of accounts for review. You’ll be able to spot when something doesn’t look right, identify missing information and work through routine issues rather than simply passing them on.

You may be:

  • AAT qualified (Level 4);
  • part-qualified ACCA or ACA; or
  • qualified by experience with solid UK practice experience.

We’re more interested in your practical ability and experience than the letters after your name.

You’ll also need:

  • Good experience preparing year-end accounts for UK businesses.
  • Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to produce clear, tidy and logical working papers.
  • Confidence using accounting and bookkeeping software.
  • A reliable and organised approach to managing your workload.
  • A practical, common-sense approach to resolving problems.
  • Good communication skills when dealing with colleagues and clients.

Experience using TaxCalc, Xero and QuickBooks would be particularly useful.

What we offer

Salary of £27,000–£31,000 FTE, depending on experience.

Full-time or part-time opportunities.

Flexible working patterns for part-time employees, including school hours where practical.

Holiday entitlement plus bank holidays.

Company pension.

Perkbox subscription.

Basic healthcare package.

A supportive and friendly working environment.

Sensible working hours and a role with a clear focus.

Opportunities to develop as the practice continues to grow.

Who this role would suit

You might currently be working as a:

  • Practice Accountant;
  • Accounts Semi-Senior;
  • Accounts Senior; or
  • experienced Accounts Assistant ready for the next step.

You might be looking for your next full-time role. Alternatively, you may have several years of practice experience and now want a part-time position that fits better around family or other commitments.

Either is fine with us.

What matters is that you understand how year-end accounts should come together, take pride in producing accurate work and can become a dependable member of our team.

Interested?

Please apply with your CV and a short note telling us about your accountancy practice experience and whether you are looking for full-time or part-time hours.

We look forward to hearing from you.
