Practice Bookkeeper in Colchester, Essex

Time Appointments are recruiting on behalf of a trusted Accountancy Firm based in Colchester, who are currently recruiting for an experienced Bookkeeper. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is seeking a fantastic working environment and a company that truly values their employees.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Managing a portfolio of small business clients for all bookkeeping and accounting services
• Reviewing and preparing accounts to trial balance
• Prepayments and accruals
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Bank reconciliation, purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control
• Management accounts preparation
• Fixed asset register maintenance
• Dealing with and resolving queries
• Bookkeeping quality control

Skills & Experience Required:

• Proven experience working in a bookkeeping or accounting role, preferably within an accountancy practice
• Experience managing a portfolio of clients and working across multiple businesses
• Strong technical bookkeeping knowledge, with the ability to work confidently through to trial balance
• Practical experience preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Experience preparing management accounts
• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to financial data
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence dealing directly with clients
• The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment
• Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, with experience using accounting/bookkeeping software
• A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team
• A commitment to maintaining accuracy, confidentiality and high professional standards
• An AAT qualification or equivalent accounting/bookkeeping qualification would be advantageous, although relevant practical experience will also be considered.
