Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Hays Education is delighted to be working in partnership with a highly respected and award-winning private nursery group to recruit an experienced and passionate Pre-School Room Leader for one of their flagship Central London settings.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Early Years professional who can demonstrate strong leadership skills, a thorough understanding of the EYFS framework, and a genuine commitment to achieving excellent outcomes for children aged 3-5 years.
The Opportunity
As Pre-School Room Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of a busy and vibrant pre-school room, ensuring children receive the highest standards of care, education, and support.
You will lead a team of practitioners, role model best practice, and create an environment that allows children to thrive socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.Working closely with the wider management team, you will play a vital role in the continued success of the nursery while supporting colleagues to deliver engaging and meaningful learning experiences.
This role would suit an experienced Room Leader looking for a fresh challenge or a confident Senior Early Years Practitioner ready to take the next step into a leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, motivate, coach, and inspire a team of Early Years Practitioners and Senior Practitioners
- Support staff development through mentoring, training, and regular feedback
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture
- Ensure staffing levels, room routines, and daily operations run efficiently
- Lead room meetings and contribute to wider nursery improvement initiatives
Learning and Development
- Plan, implement, and review a high-quality curriculum in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- Create engaging learning opportunities that reflect children's interests, developmental needs, and individual next steps
- Encourage creativity, exploration, problem-solving, and independent learning through play
- Support children in achieving developmental milestones across all areas of learning
- Deliver enriching experiences that promote language development, communication skills, confidence, and school readiness
Observation, Assessment and Planning
- Maintain accurate observations, assessments, and developmental records
- Monitor children's progress and identify appropriate interventions where required
- Support key persons in completing learning journeys to a high standard
- Ensure planning is purposeful, challenging, and tailored to individual children's needs
- Work closely with families to ensure continuity between home and nursery learning
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Ensure safeguarding practices are embedded into everyday routines
- Maintain the highest standards of health and safety, hygiene, and child welfare
- Ensure all policies, procedures, and compliance requirements are followed consistently
Parent Partnerships
- Build strong and professional relationships with parents and carers
- Provide regular updates regarding children's progress and development
- Conduct parent meetings and support family engagement initiatives
- Act as an ambassador for the nursery, delivering exceptional customer service and care
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification or above
- Significant experience working within high-quality nursery or early years settings
- Previous Room Leader, Third-in-Charge, Senior Practitioner, or supervisory experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of the EYFS framework and child development
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Excellent leadership and people management skills
- The ability to inspire and develop others
- Outstanding communication and organisational abilities
