A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Gloucester is seeking a dedicated Primary Mental Health and Learning Support Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is committed to helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

As a Primary Mental Health and Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, and other additional learning needs. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, positive, and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported.

The Role

As a Primary Mental Health and Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation, anxiety, or engagement in the classroom
  • Deliver small-group interventions focused on social skills, confidence, resilience, and wellbeing
  • Support children with additional needs throughout the school day
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, support staff, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for every child

What We're Looking For

  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic individual
  • Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural challenges
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine interest in mental health, psychology, education, or child development
  • Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential

Ideal Backgrounds (Not Essential)

  • Psychology or related degree
  • Youth work, care work, or support work experience
  • Experience within PRUs, alternative provisions, or specialist settings
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or CPI training

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK
