An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to take a leading role within a growing Building Services engineering team.
This is a predominantly home-based position, offering significant autonomy and responsibility across the delivery of complex Stage 4 and Stage 5 MEP projects. You'll lead mechanical design and coordination, manage engineers and Revit modellers, and work closely with wider project teams to ensure successful technical delivery.
The role would suit an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer who is confident running projects and leading teams, while remaining technically involved in design and coordination.
The Role
As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
- Leading the mechanical design and delivery of Building Services projects
- Taking ownership of projects across RIBA Stages 4 and 5
- Designing and reviewing complex mechanical Building Services systems
- Providing expertise across Mechanical and Public Health design
- Managing and supporting engineers and Revit modellers
- Reviewing coordinated Revit models and technical design information
- Using Navisworks to review models and identify coordination issues
- Managing project programmes, deliverables and technical deadlines
- Coordinating closely with Electrical Engineers, BIM teams and wider project stakeholders
- Providing technical guidance and resolving complex design challenges
- Attending project sites when required
- Ensuring projects are delivered to the required technical and quality standards
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer with a strong Building Services design and leadership background.
Ideally, you'll have:
- A minimum of 8 years' Building Services experience
- Extensive experience delivering Stage 4 and Stage 5 design and coordination
- Strong Mechanical Building Services design expertise
- Knowledge of Public Health design
- Previous experience leading engineering teams and Revit modellers
- Strong project management and project delivery capabilities
- Experience with CAD and/or reviewing coordinated models in Navisworks
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline
- Excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The self-motivation and organisation required to lead projects effectively while working remotely
Candidates with aspirations to achieve CEng Chartership and continue progressing technically and professionally are particularly encouraged to apply.
