We have a Process Control and Automation Inspector role available within Tata Steel (Primary Operations / Hot Rolled Products). The department specializes in processing steel slabs into hot rolled coils through a highly complex and high-speed rolling mill. This role is ideal for someone with strong IT literacy skills and is proactive, a clear communicator and holds good attention to detail.

Role: Process Control and Automation Inspector 

Location: TATA Steel Port Talbot SA13 2NG, United Kingdom 

Rate: £39,265 per annum 

Contract length: Permanent

Start: ASAP (within 1-2 weeks)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a complete range of Engineering activities to optimise production within the Primary Operations work area (Slab Yards and Re-heat furnaces).

  • Act as the first point of contact to ensure the continued output of the Hot Mill.

  • Diagnose and rectify faults quickly on plant end devices, instrumentation, control systems, and electrical control systems of DC & AC drives and motors.

  • Issue permits on electrical systems once authorized and competent.

  • Ensure strict compliance with all Health and Safety requirements and implement the company Health and Safety Policy and relevant statutory duties.

  • React to engineering, quality, and safety issues as they arise in a timely and effective manner.

  • Actively contribute to all activities aimed at improving plant performance.

Essential requirements:

  • Completed an approved Apprenticeship with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 Electrical (or equivalent).

  • Proven experience in a relevant position with a willingness to undertake further development and training.

  • Demonstrated good technical knowledge, along with specific knowledge and experience of fault finding and electrical systems/perimetry.

  • Strong knowledge and working experience with PLC programs, instrumentation, and control systems.

  • Good understanding of electrical control systems of DC & AC drives and motors.

  • Flexibility to work overtime around breakdowns and planned maintenance periods.

Desirable requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge and experience working on PLC programs to diagnose faults and work on plant end devices and instrumentation.

  • Experience with HMI development and networks.

  • Low voltage authorization.

  • Specific experience on DC and AC control and drives packages.

  • Direct experience working with Furnace and gas systems.
