Procurement & Operations Coordinator

A hands-on role at the heart of a growing logistics business, coordinating purchasing, freight and commercial support.

This is a newly created Procurement & Operations Coordinator role, based in Gosport.

As a Procurement & Operations Coordinator you will support the commercial running of a growing logistics business, helping bring structure and consistency to how it buys, spends and works with suppliers. It is a varied, hands-on role covering three areas: purchasing coordination, freight supplier management, and commercial analysis. You will help pull purchasing together across the business, manage day-to-day relationships with a small group of freight providers, and turn spend data into useful commercial insight. With no formal purchasing system in place yet, there is a real chance to help shape how things are done and put proper processes in place. If you are organised, commercially curious and happy to roll your sleeves up, this newly created role gives you plenty to get involved in.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinating purchasing activity across the business and helping move away from each site buying independently
  • Supporting the setup of a purchase requisition and order process where none currently exists
  • Raising, processing and receiving purchase orders and dealing with suppliers day to day
  • Managing supplier relationships, particularly for high-volume purchasing
  • Supporting contract negotiations with suppliers
  • Managing relationships with a small group of freight providers
  • Reviewing freight charges, service levels and yearly price increases, and supporting negotiations
  • Analysing spend on freight and purchasing to support better commercial decisions
  • Reviewing profitability and turning data into clear commercial insight
  • Producing reporting to support the finance and commercial teams

Skills and Experience
To do well as a Procurement & Operations Coordinator you will need:
  • Some experience in a purchasing, procurement, freight or commercial support role
  • A commercially minded approach, with a good head for numbers and spend analysis
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to bring structure where there is little
  • Confidence dealing with suppliers and supporting negotiations
  • Good Excel skills and confidence working with data
  • Plenty of initiative and the drive to improve how things are done
  • Experience setting up or working with a purchase order or requisition system, which is desirable
  • Exposure to implementing new systems across purchase ordering or finance processes, which would be a real advantage
  • Logistics, transport or freight experience, which is desirable

Pay and Benefits
  • A salary of up to £40,000, dependent on experience
  • A 40-hour working week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility on start and finish times
  • Hybrid working available after successful completion of probation
  • An office-based role in Gosport, alongside the finance team
  • A newly created role with real scope to shape it and put your own processes in place
