Production Engineer

EMBS Engineering

Production Engineer – CNC
Location: Wolverhampton, West Midlands
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Overview:

On behalf of a well-established engineering manufacturer based in Wolverhampton, EMBS Talent is recruiting a Production Engineer with a strong CNC machining bias to join a busy manufacturing engineering function in a new facility as part of the companies expansion.

This is a subject matter expert role covering CNC programming, process engineering and continuous improvement across a machine shop that produces high-integrity components for market leading customers, operating in highly regulated industries, ranging from small precision parts to large stainless steel fabrications.

You will work closely with the Principal Manufacturing Engineer and take ownership of machining projects from initial drawing through to finished, verified component.

What's in it for you?

  • Salary: Competitive depending on experience
  • Day shift: Monday to Thursday 7.30 am - 3.30 pm / Fridays 7.30 am - 3 pm
  • Pension matched up to 6%, rising to 8% after five years' service
  • Death in service cover at 3x salary
  • Enhanced sickness benefit
  • 25 days annual leave plus 8 fixed days, with buy/sell flexibility and an additional days off (ADO) scheme
  • Professional membership fees paid

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prove out CNC programmes for Heidenhain-controlled milling machines using Autodesk FeatureCAM, taking each job from drawing stage through to final production.
  • Break processes down into roughing, semi-finishing and finishing operations, selecting, ordering and proving out the required tooling.
  • Build on-machine verification into the process, using touch probe technology to confirm components are correct before they leave the machine.
  • Apply GD&T expertise to precision components and large stainless steel fabrications, including programming at compound angles across 3 and 3+2-axis machines.
  • Lead continuous improvement activity across the shop floor, including Six Sigma projects, Total Productive Maintenance and 5S tooling management.
  • Support production supervision, including toolbox talks, putting-to-work processes, and deputising when required.
  • Mentor and train operators and apprentices in setting techniques and on-machine programming, including apprentice competency sign-off.
  • Produce route cards, accurate time estimates, and client-facing technical queries and concessions

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • Expert-level CNC programming experience, ideally on Heidenhain controls
  • Proficiency with CAM software such as Autodesk FeatureCAM, or a comparable package such as Powermill, Siemens NX or Delcam
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and hands-on experience across CNC Milling
  • Ability to manage the entire job process from drawing to final finishing, including tool selection, ordering, and proving
  • Adaptability in machining processes due to size and rigidity of materials
  • Knowledge and understanding of TPM
  • Experience machining precision components; exposure to large plates or fabrications is a strong advantage
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey clear technical instructions
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the flexibility to support wider operational needs

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within automotive, aerospace, nuclear, defence or power manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with SAP, Vault and Autodesk Inventor
  • Six Sigma or 5S experience
  • Experience mentoring or training junior machinists or apprentices
