A specialist project management consultancy operating across the Midlands and North is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead major public-sector infrastructure and built-environment schemes. The successful Project Director will focus on the critical pre-contract and governance stages, bringing structure, pace and clear direction to complex projects. This Project Director position would suit an established professional with strong local-authority experience.

The Project Director will act as a senior client contact, managing commercial performance, governance and multidisciplinary project teams. As Project Director, they will establish robust reporting and decision-making structures while coordinating public authorities, consultants and delivery partners. The successful Project Director will ensure projects are commercially sound, properly structured and ready for successful delivery.

You must have prior construction consultancy experience to be considered for this role.



The Project Director's role

The Project Director will lead major infrastructure, regeneration and built-environment projects through planning, design, procurement and pre-contract activity.

Responsibilities will include establishing project governance, controls, programmes and reporting procedures. The Project Director will manage senior stakeholders across local authorities, client departments and consultant teams while providing strategic technical direction.

The role will also involve overseeing risk, assurance, commercial management and project set-up. The successful candidate will coordinate input from specialists, challenge project performance and ensure decisions are made clearly and efficiently.



The Project Director

The successful Project Director will have:

  • Significant consultancy experience leading public-sector infrastructure or built-environment projects
  • Strong experience working with councils or local authorities
  • Extensive pre-contract, governance and project set-up experience
  • A degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Regeneration or a related discipline
  • MRICS, MAPM, MCIOB, CEng or another relevant professional qualification
  • Knowledge of planning, design, procurement and construction processes
  • Understanding of NEC, ICC and JCT contracts
  • Strong commercial, leadership and stakeholder-management skills
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams
