Overview

Our client, a leading specialist contractor in complex diaphragm wall and deep foundation works, is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Diaphragm Wall to join a major UK infrastructure programme based in East Anglia.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key leadership role on one of the country’s largest and most challenging civil engineering projects, delivering technically complex geotechnical packages within a high-profile environment.

Job Description

Reporting to the Project Director, you will take full ownership of diaphragm wall operations from mobilisation through to completion. You will be responsible for ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, including construction managers, engineers, subcontractors, and temporary works specialists, driving performance across technical, commercial, and operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of diaphragm wall works
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute construction activities from mobilisation through to completion
  • Oversee construction methodologies, sequencing, and execution strategies

Operations & Performance

  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme and design requirements
  • Monitor progress, productivity, and performance against key milestones
  • Drive resolution of technical and construction challenges

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate site teams, subcontractors, engineering teams, and suppliers
  • Provide clear leadership, direction, and support to delivery teams
  • Maintain strong relationships with client representatives and stakeholders

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Promote and lead a strong safety-first culture across site operations
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Oversee implementation of RAMS, ITPs, and quality assurance processes

Commercial & Programme Control

  • Manage programme delivery and ensure alignment with project milestones
  • Monitor cost performance, productivity, and commercial outcomes
  • Maintain strong oversight of subcontractor performance and outputs

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience delivering diaphragm wall and deep foundation works
  • Strong track record in a Project Manager or senior role within heavy civil engineering
  • Experience managing subcontractors, plant, and complex site operations
  • In-depth knowledge of diaphragm wall construction methodologies
  • Strong understanding of temporary works, sequencing, and delivery planning
  • Excellent commercial awareness and programme management skills

Desirable

  • Professional accreditation (ICE or equivalent), or working towards
  • Experience on major infrastructure projects (rail, highways, tunnelling, marine)
