Project Manager - Grid Connections

Key Responsibilities
- Represent the Client's interests throughout the project lifecycle, from early-stage planning to commissioning and handover.
- Lead and manage external contractors and consultants involved in the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of HV substation works.
- Oversee the development of project scopes, schedules, budgets, and risk registers.
- Ensure compliance with National Grid or other connection standards, CDM regulations, and relevant industry standards (e.g. IEC, ENA).
- Act as the primary point of contact for the TSO/NESO, key project stakeholders, and internal leadership.
- Review and approve technical documents, designs, and method statements on behalf of the client.
- Monitor contractor performance, site progress, and ensure alignment with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
- Attend and lead site inspections, progress meetings, and stakeholder briefings.
- Support procurement and contract management activities, including tender evaluations and contract administration.
- Drive resolution of technical and project delivery issues.
- Ensure accurate project reporting, KPIs, and governance to the client's senior leadership team.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven track record delivering HV substation projects (132kV and above), ideally in a client or EPC environment.
- Experience acting as a client representative or owner's engineer.
- Solid understanding of grid connection processes and stakeholder interfaces (e.g. National Grid, DNOs, ICPs).
- Strong knowledge of CDM regulations, HV safety procedures, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Project Management qualification (e.g. APM, PRINCE2, PMP) preferred.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site as required.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards it.
- Experience with BESS, renewable energy, or flexible generation integration projects.
- Knowledge of NEC or FIDIC contract forms.
