The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting on behalf of an established and growing UK power infrastructure and renewable energy contractor for an experienced Project Manager to join their delivery team in Scotland.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of multiple 33kV and 66kV substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Scotland and the wider UK.
This is a predominantly site-based position, with the successful Project Manager expected to take ownership of up to three projects concurrently, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and in line with agreed programmes.
The organisation operates across complex power and infrastructure projects, providing capabilities covering engineering, procurement, construction, substation construction, civil works, electrical installation and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple 33kV and 66kV substation and BESS projects.
- Manage up to three projects simultaneously, from mobilisation through to completion and handover.
- Lead project delivery teams, subcontractors, site management and specialist contractors.
- Manage project programmes, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are achieved.
- Coordinate electrical, civil, mechanical and associated works across each project.
- Monitor project progress against programme, budget, quality and contractual requirements.
- Manage subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring works are completed to the required standards.
- Liaise closely with clients, consultants, principal contractors, utilities and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure all works are undertaken in accordance with relevant health & safety legislation and company procedures.
- Review and manage RAMS, permits, construction documentation and site records.
- Identify project risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Monitor commercial performance, variations, costs and project expenditure.
- Attend regular progress meetings and provide accurate project updates.
- Coordinate commissioning, testing and final project handover.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Support continuous improvement across project delivery and construction processes.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate will have a proven background in electrical power infrastructure, with specific experience delivering substation and/or BESS projects.
You should have:
- Previous Project Management experience within the power, utilities or electrical infrastructure sector.
- Demonstrable experience working on 33kV and/or 66kV substation projects.
- Experience of BESS / Battery Energy Storage System projects would be highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of HV electrical infrastructure and substation construction.
- Experience managing multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously.
- Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
- Strong programme and project management capabilities.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of project costs.
- Ability to manage client relationships and key project stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of construction health & safety requirements.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to work predominantly site-based across Scotland and the wider UK.
