The Opportunity
In this role, you will act as the senior leader on the project, taking responsibility for successful delivery across programme, commercial performance, safety, quality, stakeholder management, and project profitability. Working closely with clients, consultants, supply chain partners, and internal teams, you will play a key role in driving project success whilst developing high-performing teams and maintaining the highest standards of delivery. Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • Lead the project team and take overall responsibility for successful project delivery.
  • Act as the primary representative with clients, stakeholders, and external bodies.
  • Manage overall project commercial performance and business outcomes.
  • Oversee subcontractor and supplier procurement activities and approvals.
  • Ensure effective contract administration and change management processes are implemented.
  • Drive risk and opportunity management across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure project programmes are developed, maintained, reviewed, and updated.
  • Manage project resources, budgets, recruitment activities, and team development.
  • Set performance objectives and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Champion Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability, and Quality standards across all project activities.
  • Ensure all incidents, observations, lessons learned, and improvements are captured and actioned appropriately.
  • Produce project reports, forecasts, and management information for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support business development and future work-winning opportunities as required.

You will have the following qualifications & experience:
  • Demonstrable experience managing major construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong commercial and contractual management experience.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proven stakeholder and client management skills.
  • Experience managing project risks, opportunities, programme delivery, and resources.
  • Strong understanding of Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Sustainability requirements.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing project teams.

It’s great if you also have the following
  • Experience working for a principal contractor on major infrastructure projects.
  • NEC contract experience.
  • Previous experience supporting business development and work-winning activities.
  • Experience within highly regulated sectors such as defence, transportation, utilities, nuclear, or major civil engineering.
  • Professional membership or chartership (APM, ICE, CIOB or equivalent).
  • Degree-qualified in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.

The setting for the role
You will be based within a major project delivery environment, working closely with clients, consultants, engineering functions, principal designers, and supply chain partners to deliver complex construction projects. Reporting directly to the Project Director, you will lead project teams and act as the focal point for project delivery, ensuring commercial success, operational excellence, and compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
