Project Manager / Senior Project Manager

We’re working with a growing construction consultancy looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.

They’re not overly focused on job title. This could be a really good move for an experienced PM who is already running their own projects and feels close to making the step to Senior, or an existing Senior PM who wants more variety, autonomy and the opportunity to broaden their experience.

The important thing is that you’re comfortable taking ownership of projects, dealing directly with clients and still enjoy being hands-on with delivery.

The consultancy works across healthcare, education, commercial and wider public-sector environments, with a varied pipeline covering refurbishment, building upgrades, compliance, infrastructure and capital investment.

Rather than being tied to one commission, you’ll have the opportunity to work across different projects, clients and stages of delivery.

The Opportunity

You’ll be trusted to manage your own projects while still having experienced senior people around you when needed.

For someone approaching Senior PM level, that creates the opportunity to take on more complex commissions, strengthen your client exposure and demonstrate that you're already capable of operating at the next level.

For an established Senior PM, there’s scope to broaden your experience and take greater ownership without immediately being pushed away from project delivery into a purely managerial position.

A lot of the work is also delivered within live operational environments, where stakeholder management, phasing, programme and communication are particularly important.

The Role

You’ll manage projects from the early stages through procurement, construction and completion, acting as a key point of contact between the client and wider project team.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing projects across the RIBA stages from inception through to completion
• Acting as a key client contact and building strong day-to-day relationships
• Developing and managing project programmes, delivery plans and reporting
• Coordinating multidisciplinary consultants, contractors and specialist teams
• Managing procurement, tendering and contractor appointments
• Monitoring programme, cost, risk, change and overall project performance
• Chairing project meetings and driving actions through to completion
• Working with JCT and NEC contracts
• Managing delivery within live and operational environments
• Identifying issues early and proactively driving projects forward

There is a good level of autonomy attached to the position. They want someone who can take responsibility and make things happen, rather than simply coordinate information between different parties.

The Projects

There’s a broad mix of work across the team, including:

• Healthcare refurbishment and estate improvement
• University and education projects
• Fire safety, compliance and building remediation
• M&E and infrastructure upgrades
• Energy efficiency and sustainability projects
• Commercial refurbishment and capital improvement programmes
• Listed and heritage buildings

Healthcare forms an important part of the portfolio, including projects within NHS and other operational estates, but you don't need to come directly from a healthcare background.

Experience from education, commercial, public sector, refurbishment or another technically complex environment could translate equally well.

About You

You’ll already have a good grounding in construction Project Management and be at the stage where you can independently manage projects or substantial workstreams.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Experience within a construction consultancy, client-side organisation or relevant contractor environment
• Confidence managing projects and communicating directly with clients
• Experience coordinating consultants, contractors and multiple stakeholders
• A good understanding of programme, risk, procurement and project reporting
• Knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts
• Experience across refurbishment, capital works, M&E, infrastructure or similar projects
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage several priorities

Professional accreditation through APM, CIOB, RICS or equivalent would be welcomed, whether already achieved or currently being worked towards.
